About the Event
We are excited to announce our “It Takes A Village” capital campaign. This is the first fundraising campaign for the Dr. Margaret Wade Lewis Center for Black History and Culture (MWLC). The goal of our campaign is to raise enough money to both renovate the Ann Oliver House, a historic home in the New Paltz, and cover operational costs for the organization.
Built in October 1885 by Jacob Wynkoop, a free black man, the house was purchased by Ann Oliver, a free black woman. Tho in disrepair, it still stands tall after 139 years at 5 Broadhead Avenue. The renovations, upgrades and cost to start operating as a cultural center are estimated at $2.5Million dollars and the home needs lots of love and attention to help it thrive for the next 100 years. It will take a village, our village!
